Award-winning Anglo-Spanish performance company Sleepwalk Collective return to the UK with their new show Kourtney Kardashian, which following its premiere at the Festival de Clasicos,  Alcala, Spain in June 2018, plays at HOME in Manchester, Thu 7 – Sat 9 March 2019.

Kourtney Kardashian follows a ballet called Kim Kardashian (2016), and a stage play, Khloé Kardashian (2017), as the final part of an accidental trilogy of performances exploring high art and celebrity, and our increasingly tenuous grip on reality in the 21st century.

Performed in English, Kourtney Kardashian is a love/hate letter to outrageous luxury and artistic genius that dances playfully around the rules and conventions of classical opera, with an orchestra of laptops, a multi-speaker sound system chorus, and performers using speakers strapped to their bodies.

Kourtney Kardashianis an opera of sorts, although it contains few of the things that you might normally expect to find in an opera,” says Sleepwalk Collective’s Sammy Metcalfe. “Perhaps it’s more accurate to say that it’s a show about opera and all the things that make it up. It’s also funny and sad, and, we hope, will take you somewhere unexpected.”

An original soundtrack is complemented by recordings of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, sung by the parents of one of the artists, who are amateur opera singers.

Kourtney Kardashian is performed by iara Solano and Nhung Dang, with text by Sammy Metcalfe, and iara Solano, Rebeca Matellán and Nhung Dang. Lights and music Sammy Metcalfe; Mezzo-Soprano Lucy Metcalfe; Bass Stephen Metcalfe; and produced by Sarah-Jane Watkinson.
