‘New Love’, the album, is Ziggy’s seventh studio album to date, marking a new chapter in Alberts’ artistic journey, reflecting on themes of second chances, self-worth, and the intricate tapestry of modern life. A project born from the road in the UK, taking inspiration from artists such as The 1975, Kings of Leon and Ed Sheeran – A spiritual sequel to ‘Laps Around The Sun’ and crafted with the intention of being played live. Speaking on the album Ziggy explains how “The record, to me, has a message and meaning of a return to simplicity; that despite all life’s chaos and all that you know and how far you’ve come and grown as a person, your life can be led by magic and adventure-if you choose joy and choose to do good. I think choosing simplicity is wisdom, and that’s how I tried to practise this album-from the recording process to how we laid out the tracklist. I’m excited to share it with everyone”.
The newly released emotive single ‘Where Does The Love Go?’ features Ziggy’s signature acoustic sound, with a deliberately slower tempo, conveying a thoughtful message about our collective responsibility where we, as humanity, need to choose to embody love in order to keep love alive. The music video, out Friday 20th September, was notably filmed on London’s very own Portobello Road, Notting Hill and The Royal Albert Hall. This call out to humanity delves into themes of thoughtful self-reflection, inspired by a moment at Wategos Bay in Byron Bay, Australia, where Ziggy questioned a connection of genuine love. Ziggy says that “ It’s a song I wrote about wondering-where does the love go,when it’s not us? It’s a question I was asking myself when I was feeling a lack of self-love. Now I’ve thought about it more, I think the love disappears unless we embody it.”
From a small town on the Sunshine Coast and busking on the streets of Byron Bay, to touring embarking on his ‘New Love World Tour’ this year across the UK, Europe, North America and Japan, Ziggy Alberts is a true grassroots success. His 2018 album ‘Laps Around The Sun’ became an incredible breakout moment, and since then, he’s scored numerous highs – multiple ARIA gold and platinum records, sold out tours that criss-cross the world, and even released his own poetry books. The future looks bright for Ziggy, with enraptured fans across the globe, UK fans should keep a lookout for more local performances coming soon!
