Fast-rising London talent MORGAN kicks off 2022 with new single ‘You’re Worth It’, out today.
Announcing itself with delicate guitar chords, ‘You’re Worth It’ sees MORGAN deliver an emotionally-charged pop ballad propelled by her own impassioned vocals. The track also saw MORGAN get involved in the production of beat, alongside the song producers Slim Typical. Accompanying the track release is a stunning visual directed by Kassandra Powell. Starring MORGAN as well as Hamzaa and a diverse cast of people, the video shows each person initially in a vulnerable and unconfident light, but as the song progresses they begin to radiate empowering energy of feeling comfortable in their skin, celebrating with bursts of dance, positive attitude and movement.
MORGAN shares the following about the video: “I tear up every time I watch this video. It’s full of so many different emotions – pain, happiness, self-love, power, movement, diversity… I really wanted to make the effort to include many types of people in this video and for them to truly be the stars in it, considering what the song is actually about – loving yourself no matter what shape, size, ethnicity, gender or identity you are. Kassandra Powell is an incredible director (she actually directs most of my music videos) and her vision for it just elevated the message I want to portray. It’s my favourite video to date and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”
Talking about the song, MORGAN explains, “I wrote ‘You’re Worth It’ about self-love. Despite this being something that I have emphasised on for as long as I remember, it’s been something I really have being trying to focus and instil in my daily life recently so it comes from a deep place in my heart.”
She continues, “We live in an age of social-media and consequently an age of perfection. People can say it’s a Gen-Z issue but in my opinion we are all victims of it regardless of age, gender, race… the list goes on. I’m pretty clear about that from the opening line. I guess you can say when I am talking about ‘make-up’, I’m actually referring to the mask we portray to both the outside and digital world.”
‘You’re Worth It’ follows hit single ‘ADCT’, a track that was re-released late last year after going viral on TikTok. It has since racked up over 5 million streams and 1.5 million YouTube streams, as well as being TikTok’s No. 1 trending sound and No. 1 on the UK Hot 50. Not stopping there, the song was playlisted by BBC Radio 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, Kiss FM and Kiss Fresh. It also received support across Apple Music, as well as on BBC Radio 1 from Jack Saunders, Clara Amfo and Victoria Jane
Prior to that were singles ‘Nobody Else’, featuring London rapper Kasien, and ‘Behave’, a drill-tinged collaboration with fellow rising artist Jevon. The latter was hailed as the BBC Radio 1Xtra ‘Record Of The Week’ by Ace, and received additional support from BBC Radio 1, No Signal, Capital FM, Apple Music 1 and BBC Sounds.
Kicking off the new year with the same steely determination she conveyed in 2021, ‘You’re Worth It’ is the work of an artist destined for big things.
