French production duo We Are Gold have enlisted Finnish pop prodigy Tomi Saario for their brand new feel-good summer single ‘Coconut Water’, out now via RCA France / Sony Music. The track is built around a sample of Spandau Ballet’s chart topping classic ‘True’, and has received the seal of approval from the 80’s hitmakers, with We Are Gold seamlessly blending the unmistakable melody with Tomi’s sleek vocals to create an infectious tropical 2020 homage to the iconic 1983 hit.
“The making of ‘Coconut Water’ was special. At first we had a song with a chord progression that was similar. The track had an 80’s vibe to it but we were stuck and didn’t know where to take it. It was missing something. We forgot about it for a while until we heard Spandau Ballet’s legendary ‘True’ again. That instantly gave us the idea to use the classic “Ah Ah Aaaah” sample and finish the song,” We Are Gold explain.
“When We Are Gold sent me a message asking if I could be a part of their new song featuring a sample of Spandau Ballet’s ‘True’, it was honestly a no brainer for me. I’ve always been a big fan of the original, so it was amazing to have this opportunity to make a summery track inspired by it and bring it to 2020,” says Tomi.
Parisian producers David Goldcher and Rémi Fontaine-Berger created the group We Are Gold in 2017 after a trip to Los Angeles. Their first single, revamping the 1970 classic ‘It’s a Shame‘ by the Spinners, featuring LA based artist Matt Martino, received extensive playlist support including New music Friday and Electro Chill, quickly amassing over a million streams. In 2019 the duo released a remix of Redbone’s Gold-Certified ‘Come And Get Your Love‘. With their special blend of electronic and vintage urban influences mixed with summery pop music, We Are Gold perfectly embody the fusion between the French Touch and the American Way.
