TS Graye, has released her intoxicating new single ‘Wrong One’ alongside an animated video directed by Matt Hutchings.
Influenced by the cathartic yet upbeat music of the likes of SZA and 6LACK, ‘Wrong One’ juxtaposes Graye’s signature smoky vocals with bass-laden production by Bhav. The hyperreal video co-designed by the artist herself depicts Graye reclaiming her power after getting her heart broken. Subtleties in the imagery such as astrological symbols and a Kill Bill inspired catsuit allude to Graye’s self-confessed “bad bitch” mentality, resulting in a video that is both cosmic and empowering.
Writing the track was a therapeutic form of escapism for Graye and she explains: “Wrong One is different to tracks that I’ve put out before. It’s trappy and bassy, but it’s a bit more upbeat. I was in an angry place when I wrote it, even though I didn’t realise at the time. I was in situations in love and with my music where I was being disrespected and undermined. This song is me coming to terms with that, and deciding to stand up for myself and reclaim some power.”
‘Wrong One’ follows on from her latest single ‘Dressed In White’ which marked the long-awaited return of Graye since the release of ‘MY2’, ‘Take Notes’ and ‘Honestly’ back in 2018. The latter garnered huge attention from fans and critics alike, reaching over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone and it was remixed by synth-pop sensation Shura last year.
