Tom Grennan releases new official music video for new single ‘Oh Please’. With original video shoot plans derailed due to social distancing measures, Tom stepped up to film the visual at his East-London home during lockdown. Watch HERE.
Speaking of the track’s inspiration, Tom says: “When writing ‘Oh Please’ I was listening to a lot of Curtis Mayfield, Nas, Kendrick, and of course Amy Winehouse, and I wanted to channel this through the song. The opening transports me back to visiting America, crossing the Brooklyn bridge for the first time and seeing Manhattan. It really hit me at that moment that anything was possible, and I saw things clearer than ever before. I felt euphoric and excited for the future, a chapter closed and a beautiful new beginning ahead. It changed my mindset towards relationships, to focus my energy on learning from them rather than going into a darker, angry place. ‘Oh Please’ is about learning from relationships. It’s about staying strong and making the right decisions with respect and grace.”
Currently self isolating under lockdown, Tom recently revealed he has been recovering from Covid-19 symptoms himself, turning to social media to share his experience and urging fans to stay at home.
Since creating the ‘Oh Please’ visual, Tom had returned from London to his hometown of Bedford, joining the local community relief effort to volunteer with local charity Bedford Kindness. Tom, who had also been helping deliver shopping and walking dogs for his elderly neighbours in East London said, “being back in Bedford, I wanted to make sure I could help and support my local community and make as much of a difference as I can.”
Since the Government lockdown Tom’s taken to social media to spread some much needed light relief to his followers and fans. Playing in the Premier League ‘Invitational’ FIFA tournament repping his beloved Manchester United against Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, cooking live with chef Tom Brown, pranking his dad, challenging Peter Crouch to an unconventional game of keepy uppy, kicking off Radio X’s ‘Phone Covers’ series with a stunning rendition of Paolo Nutini’s classic ‘Last Request’, and performing live on Instagram for Mulberry.
Inspired by ‘Oh Please’s “come closer, feel closer” refrain, Tom has also released a karaoke lyric video, encouraging fans to “Feel Closer” and #OhPleaseSingalong. Watch HERE.
‘Oh Please’ was produced by Eg White (Amy Winehouse, Adele) and Zach Witness (Erykah Badhu, Andre 3000), and follows Tom’s first single of 2020 ‘This Is The Place’. Described as an “epic comeback” by the NME and premiered as Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record’ on BBC Radio 1. Both are set to feature on Tom’s soon to be announced second album, due for release later this year.
‘Lighting Matches’ saw Tom Grennan release one of the best selling debut albums of 2018. A breakthrough UK Top Five release amassing over a quarter of a billion streams and cementing Tom as one of Britain’s most vital and exciting new artists.
An undoubted heavyweight in the live arena, headlining sold-out shows at Brixton Academy and the Royal Albert Hall, Tom has won over thousands of fans on festival stages including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Isle Of Wight Festival, TRNSMT, Neighbourhood Weekender, Latitude and a host of other events. Tom marked his first live performance of the new decade with an intimate show at London’s Bush Hall in February for BRITs Week together with O2 for War Child. 2020 headline dates are soon to be announced.
