Tiggs Da Author today drops the thrilling vampiristic video for his new single ‘Fly ‘Em High’ – featuring UK rapper Nines, and is taken from his stellar debut album, ‘Blame It On The Youts’ – out March 12th on Alacran Records.
Directed by Shan Phearon (Mabel, Bree Runway, Royal Blood), and featuring Tiggs as the storytelling preacher man, and NINES as a victim of two outcast bloodthirsty teen vampires, the thrilling new video for ‘Fly ‘Em High’ is a powerful depiction of today’s cracks in society. Tiggs and NINES keep watch of the traphouse where vampirism rules – a powerful metaphor for today’s youth, in a broken, failing system.
Tiggs says of its themes; “The video is a future dystopian London where the youth have turned into vampires. Instead of drugs, they sell and take blood. The whole concept is based on being in the trap house – a metaphor for being in an actual real life trap themselves, and, like vampires, they cannot change and are in a cycle which they can’t get out of. My role in the video is the narrator/preacher, trying to save their souls, and baptising the vampire youth is a very literal metaphor for trying to show them that there is another way of life.”
Director Shan Phearon adds; “For this piece, I wanted to take Tiggs’ creative direction into new world-building territory, with underlying societal ideas delivered through high-concept genre entertainment. It’s a heightened reality and we built an entire backstory for the boys, which there are Easter Eggs for throughout the video… Tiggs agrees with me that Netflix better holla. It’s Top Boy by way of The Lost Boys’.”
The collaboration follows their previous co-write of the track ‘Oh My’, which landed a coveted slot on the soundtrack to the huge Netflix show Top Boy – as well as collaborating on Nines’ track ‘NIC’ from, his UK number 1 album ‘Crabs In A Bucket’. The song, produced by Show n Prove, has been receiving spins on BBC 1Xtra, as well receiving praise at media with TRENCH describing the track as “smooth and stylish” and Notion commenting on just “how effortless their synergy is.”.
Recorded in the storied RAK studios with engineer Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker, Plan B), and featuring a highly charged, twelve-dose blend of Afrobeat, Afrojazz and Afrosoul splendour, ‘Blame It On The Youts’ is a bold, bright & brilliant album, packed full of hard hitting messages born from frustration, but with the aim to inspire and help make a change. This is an album that lyrically resonates in the current climate. It’s an album that has something to say.
2019 saw the release of his eleven-track ‘MOREFIRE’ mixtape featuring guest appearances from NSG & NOT3S. Additionally, Tiggs produced, co-wrote, and featured on Stefflon Don’s single ‘Pretty Girl’, and contributed to J Hus’ gold-selling debut album ‘Common Sense’.
