The Ninth Wave share new track ‘First Encounters’ as an instant grat from their forthcoming debut album ‘Infancy’. ‘Infancy’ will be released on Distiller Records in two parts this year, Pt. I on May 3rd and Pt. II on November 15th.
‘First Encounters’ is an exploration of social anxiety and how people change over time. “Everything felt a bit f**ked. I felt like I was able to interact with people normally, but after that first encounter with somebody I didn’t really know what to do,” says frontman Haydn Park-Patterson. “I was scared that it was just going to become a part of who I was as a person.” Sonically, the track closes ‘Infancy Pt. I’ with a darker turn, living out “a very brief fantasy of being a metal band.”
Elaborating on the track, Haydn says: “It’s about trying to keep up with normal life when on the inside you feel totally lost, so much so that it feels like that state could very easily become a permanent part of who you are. Everyone, at some point in their lives, feels the pressure and anxieties of existence.”
‘First Encounters’ precedes the release of The Ninth Wave’s debut album ‘Infancy’ which will be released in two parts this year. The band have recently garnered phenomenal support from the likes of BBC News, Noisey and NME, as well as continued support from BBC Radio 1 and Radio X. Tonight, the band commence a European tour alongside The Blinders, which will be followed by slots at The Great Escape and another European tour alongside YONAKA. With critical acclaim and an impeccable reputation on the live circuit both nailed, it’s only a matter of time before The Ninth Wave permeate the mainstream and cement their position as one of the British music scene’s brightest new prospects.
