British indie-rock three piece The Manatees release brand new track ‘Buttercup’, the final instalment before the trio release their second EP ‘Different State Of Mind’, due for release on 23rd February 2024. To celebrate the release of the single, the band will also be playing the Pandamonium Festival at Two Palms, London with free tickets here. Stream Buttercup here.
Following the release of previous single ‘Get What You Want’, the latest offering ahead of their upcoming EP, produced by Tarek Musa (Spring King, Big Moon, Gengahr), ‘Buttercup’, is writhing with high impact guitar energy. Twisting with a darker vibrance, the track is montaged with intricate guitar riffs alongside hypnotic drum paces that’s electrified by transfixing reverb throughout.
Speaking on ‘Buttercup’, lead singer Jay Harris says “It’s really about how exhausting love can be. Being extremely vulnerable to someone, yet utterly addicted at the same time. I love the intricacies you pick-up within relationships, and the fact no one on the outside could ever know what it’s truly like. The longer you’re with someone, the greater those intricacies become, whilst also putting so much more on the line as you delve deeper into life together. You have to jump bigger hurdles, handle more substantial squabbles and ultimately sacrifice something along the way.”
Rest assured there is depth to The Manatees’ pop delight – the debut ‘Dream In Colour’ EP came out in April and openly tackled the anxieties of finding your feet in an ever-changing world, emphasising the desperateness and loneliness of growing up. Yet even this couldn’t quell The Manatees’ hyper-popping genre-hopping essence rare, inspiring sold out shows at The Victoria and Sebright Arms and warranting a Jack Saunders Next Wave interview on Radio One as well as much love from Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music.
The band’s headline tour takes place in spring next year, making stops in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Brighton, London and more throughout April 2024. Tickets are on sale now here
