The Kooks and lovelytheband have joined forces on new single ‘Jeanie’, out now. Listen here.
The indie legends from each side of the Atlantic have collaborated on the supremely catchy ‘Jeanie’. Opening with a minimalist pop groove and low-key synths, the tune is driven by the alternating vocals of singers Luke Pritchard and Mitchy Collins, with guitar solo from Hugh Harris.
“‘Jeanie’ is about all the unknown legends,” says Luke Pritchard. “She’s not asking for forgiveness or appreciation from the world, just getting on everyday, looking after her people and living in the moment. I’m so happy we got to collaborate on the track with lovelytheband, it’s been a beautiful experience. We hope you give it a spin, and connect with the track. And we look forward to bringing it on the road soon…”
Mitchy Collins adds, “‘Jeanie’ lyrically mirrors my own journey chasing a dream of creating music for a living. The song serves as a reminder that you can create your own breaks. It’s an absolute pinch me moment for my band to be collaborating with The Kooks. They have had an influence on our songwriting and production since we began.”
As lyrically dexterous as you would expect from these two bands, this touching and emotional song tells the story of self-made woman, Jeanie, who has taken ownership of her life and the challenges it has brought (“Diamond under pressure. She’s her own protector. No time left to borrow, living life like there’s no tomorrow”).
The song teases the return of The Kooks, and is a progression from the electro-pop found on their 2022 album, 10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark. For lovelytheband, this is their first new music since August, when they released their sweeping and anthemic self-titled fourth album, which included radio hit ‘nice to know you’.
