The Darkness are gearing up for the release of their stunning new album Dreams On Toast this coming Friday (March 28th) via Cooking Vinyl. Already being garlanded with some of the greatest praise of their career, it coincides with the band’s huge UK headline tour, which is playing to packed out venues and ecstatic reviews. Pre-order the album now HERE.
Ahead of the album release the band have released another track from it, the honky-tonk, country-tinged ‘Hot On My Tail’. Brilliantly eccentric, beautifully composed, magnificently played and featuring a lyric of olfactory misadventure and romantic disappointment, it’s yet another display of the sheer diversity which features throughout Dreams On Toast.
Justin Hawkins comments, “We live in complicated times. Our forebears understood the romantic power of a well-timed breaking of the wind accompanied by the rowdy trumpeting that should, by nature, accompany such glorious endeavour. In those heroic times, the ladyfolk were invariably amazed. Alas, relentless progress has driven a wedge between the sexes – a schism, if you will. Nowadays, when it comes to love, we gentlemen hide our flatulence in a guilty miasma of fear and despair. I am not here to judge. It is for you to decide… to clench or to be free. I sincerely hope that this exploration of the matter will help you to slide squeakily from the fence. Good day to you all.”
Produced by Dan Hawkins, Dreams On Toast flawlessly captures The Darkness at their peak, celebrating their influences and strengthening their sound, while also embarking on avenues never before heard from the band. It’s an indisputably grand display from the inspired and passionate quartet.
Destined to further cement The Darkness as one of Britain’s most important, eclectic and courageous rock bands, Dreams On Toast finds Justin, Dan, Frankie and Rufus continuing to push boundaries. Over two decades deep into their multi-platinum, award-winning career, they offer up unexpected surprises to bedazzle and amaze fans once again in 2025.
