Scottish singer and multi-instrumentalist Tamzene today releases stunning new single ‘Cut Me Out Your Photos’, a nostalgia-tinged ode to heartbreak and loneliness. The track is released alongside a beautiful one-take live session, which you can watch here.
Warm and sweeping strings of an analogue synth are paired with wistful acoustic guitar and Tamzene’s flawless vocal, which holds the power to transfix an audience. This release further hints at more greatness to come from this talented artist.
Tamzene shares, “This song is really about indulging in a lonely, regretful moment. So many of us wonder if we’re still on someone’s mind, and I loved the process of trying to capture that in a song.”
‘Cut Me Out Your Photos’ follows her poignant debut single ‘Called You Out’, which was penned over Zoom in the summer of 2020 with producer Tobie Tripp [Stormzy, Joy Crookes] against a backdrop of racial injustice and worldwide protest, and details an online disagreement with a friend.
Hailing from the sleepy coastal town of Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands, years spent busking contemporary pop songs taught Tamzene the importance of killer hooks and powerful choruses. Her vocal is bold and innately emotive, taking cues from pop contemporaries such as Adele and Alicia Keys as much as the classic voices of Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin.
The pandemic saw Tamzene return to her childhood roots, resulting in the ‘Home Tapes project’, a stripped-back demo EP. As well as having graced the stages of lauded festivals such as Latitude, TRNSMT, Eurosonic Noorderslag and Reeperbahn, Tamzene has recently played at King’s Cross’ Lafayette, Hackney’s Earth, even an impromptu set in New York City, and the summer will see her play more festivals such as Brixton’s Cross The Tracks and Brighton’s Great Escape.
