T Truman, the solo project and alter ego of the Vaccines’ keyboardist Timothy Lanham, today announces his second EP ‘Luxury Star’ out March 10th 2022 and releases new single “Isabelle”. Along with the announcement, Truman has shared details of tour dates in the new year with Spector, adding to his own headline show at Servant Jazz Quarters in London on December 2nd.
Co-produced and written with frequent collaborator Geoff Roberts, T Truman’s new EP ‘Luxury Star’ follows his 2020 debut EP ‘Born To Be Right’, which drew praise for its glitzy, retro-pop stylings from the likes of NME, DIY Magazine, Dork Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Gigwise, Les In Rocks, Indie88 + more.
Balancing the allure of nostalgia with the zest of modern pop-songwriting, Lanham’s grasp of storytelling is more on display than ever on “Isabelle”. The age old quandary; unrequited love – more specifically in this case being locked in the “friend zone”. Speaking on the new single, T Truman said: “Isabelle is an awkwardly candid story about falling in love with your best friend. I’m just trying to be honest about the pains of serving time in the friend zone.”
“I wanna kiss ya / but you’re like my sister / mercy on my soul if you don’t feel the same” – he sings amidst lilting guitars, spiralling synths and choice piano stabs, before ultimately coming to terms with the harsh reality: “what should I do? / drop me a pin / what dimension are you in? / there’s no sense in a paradise for two on a planet just for you”.
T Truman pays homage to the past as much as he looks forward to the future. With sonic references to 70’s piano-pop artists such as Todd Rundgren and Elton John, there’s a distinct nostalgic feeling, but one that confidently steps forward with a clear modern approach.
“Isabelle” is the second track to be lifted from new EP ‘Luxury Star’, following “Vanity Jones” in October. Discussing the new EP, Truman commented: “Retrospectively I think a lot of this new EP’s underlying lyrical meaning is about a search for creative purpose, and perhaps the fear of what it means if you can’t find it… also a lot about the constant obsession with keeping in vogue, though I couldn’t help but layer all this with silly made up characters who I’d probably never want to meet.”
T Truman’s new single “Isabelle” is out now. Headline show at Servant Jazz Quarters in London on December 2nd. T Truman’s new EP ‘Luxury Star’ will be released March 10th, 2022.
