‘Sun God’, is the new offering from rising Singer Songwriter NUUXS, from her hotly anticipated debut album ‘Heirloom’ which is due out March 2021 via Goldun Egg/Absolute.
With the video shoot for ‘Sun God’ cancelled the day before it was to take place due to Covid-19, NUUXS had to replan everything, turning instead to animator Charlie Cross, who crafted a beautifully kaleidoscopic animated alternative, painted by hand.
An intriguing first taste of what’s to come, ‘Sun God’ is a warming slice of Spring tranquility. Lazy soul-flecked guitars flow over a traipsing, low-slung beat with NUUXS’ silken vocals soaring above. “‘Sun God’ is about the awakening of love. It represents warmth, comfort and the overpowering heat that can be all consuming, burning away any anxieties, insecurities and worries in everyday life, as you surrender yourself completely to the unknown. It’s about letting go of pain and fear, allowing yourself to heal and grow. Letting the energy ignite,” she explains.
The news of her first album follows a stream of acclaimed EPs from the French-born, London-based singer, culminating in 2019’s Red Tape Mixtape, which garnered widespread tastemaker support from the likes of Annie Mac, CLASH, tmrw, The Line of Best Fit, BBC Introducing and Mahogany.
A deeply personal writer and performer, NUUXS’ music is closely intertwined with her experiences. Raised in a cult, where she was cut off from wider culture, her musical awakening began at school, forming an indie band and writing hooks for local grime artists – a snapshot of some of the wide-ranging sounds that inform her unique brand of alt-pop. Signed to producer Jake Gosling’s (Ed Sheeran, The Libertines) Goldun Egg imprint, Heirloom sees NUUXS primed to establish herself as one of the UK’s most intriguing and vital breakthrough artists.
