Following on from March’s release of their acclaimed debut album ‘Discover Effortless Living’, charismatic indie quartet Bull are back with a bang and a new single ‘Smoke’..
On ‘Smoke’, their endearingly mellow and swaggering alt-rock sonics take centre www. Loose-limbed percussion combines with soft brass and wonky guitar licks, which – complete with a singable chorus – is the perfect recipe for their chaotic live show.
The accompanying music video echoes their previous visuals in all their DIY, collage-esque animated glory, which works as the perfect complement to the endlessly listenable slacker sounds.
Singer and guitarist Tom Beer elaborates, “Smoke was one of the first tracks we recorded with Remko in Amsterdam, but then spliced with a later version. I wrote the song in The Trafalgar Bay pub in York one wet Wednesday. Louis Cooper made the multimedia video which – amongst other things – features two rounders teams’ worth of legends out for Dan’s (guitar) birthday.”
On the airwaves, the band have received support from Chris Hawkins and Steve Lamacq at 6Music, Huw Stephens at BBC Introducing and Clara Amfo, as well as being acclaimed by fellow musicians like Declan McKenna and Elton John on his Beats 1 show.
After a brief pandemic-induced interlude, Bull will be troubling the country’s M-Roads once again with a full UK headline tour, starting this month in St Albans, and finishing triumphantly with a homecoming gig in York.
Their constant gigging and raucous live energy have earned them an ever-growing fanbase and has seen them play support slots for the likes of Pip Blom, Squid and The Orielles.
A sticky-floor venue provides the ideal setting for Bull’s brilliantly ramshackle tunes to come into their own – full tour dates are as below, with support from a host of upcoming artists including Dutch collective Personal Trainer, Katy J Pearson, Home Counties and Drug Store Romeos.
Discover Effortless Living is out now on EMI Records in conjunction with Young Thugs.
