Today, British singer songwriter Sam Tompkins releases his brand new single ‘numb’ – listen here. It’s the third offering from his upcoming debut album ‘hi, my name is insecure’.
‘numb’ sees Sam lay his emotional pain on the line as he longs to be released from its clutches. The track builds to a soaring emotional release as he sings “I’m done with thinking about it but my heart won’t allow it, I’d rather be numb.” His raspy vocals are packed with power, as he oscillates between fighting the stinging grief and allowing the numbness to take over.
Speaking on the single Sam says, “‘numb’ is all about the feeling of wanting to feel nothing at all. Sometimes when you’re struggling that’s the only thing you want. An escape. That’s what I want this song to be… something you can scream in the car or in your room when you feel like the world’s not listening. I really hope people like it.”
Sam’s highly anticipated upcoming debut album ‘hi, my name is insecure’. Years in the making as Sam built his dream body of work, incorporating tracks which are already fan favourites alongside exciting new material, it sees him team up with writer Pablo Bowman (Calvin Harris, James Arthur, Jonas Brothers) as well as writer and producer Danny Casio (Little Mix, Joy Crookes, Tom Grennan, Rudimental). The album includes hit tracks ‘someone else’, ‘time will fly’, ‘see me’, ‘lose it all’, ‘phones in heaven’ and new single ‘numb’. Sam’s 2022 EP ‘Who Do You Pray To?’ rocketed into the top 10 of the UK Album Chart and he has since been hailed by GQ as “one of the UK’s most exciting vocal talents of the moment” and CLASH as “the man of the moment”. His artistry and creative vision for himself continues to go from strength to strength.
