Continuing his reign of delivering summer-anthem take over, North Londoner Ryan Ashley has today released his eagerly anticipated debut EP ‘Innocent’ via Platoon Records.
Featuring previously released tracks such as ‘Chest’, ‘Shame’, ‘Guess My Friends Were Right’, ‘Care for You’ and ‘Innocent Feat. Katie Stewart’, the ‘Innocent’ EP truly is an emotive exploration for Ashley.
Lyrically driven by past and present relationships, sonically, the body of work boasts a consistent blend of nostalgic 90s R&B with timeless instrumentation. Close friend and collaborator MNEK can be credited for the evident synthesis of sounds as producer on the project alongside Adam Rust (Years & Years, Ella Eyre).
Speaking on the body of work, Ashley says “The ‘INNOCENT’ EP is seven tunes I’ve co-written/produced over the last four years that I love and hope people will resonate, purchase and enjoy at their leisure. There’s something on the EP for everyone (unless you’re into metal in which case I’m not the one). It’s nice to finally have a body of work out that represents me, took me forever because I’m picky. Now I can finally let go of it and begin my next chapter. More bops, more love songs, more reads.”
At 23 years old, Ryan has been professionally writing songs from the tender age of 15. Very quickly, his songwriting prowess became apparent, and garnered well-deserved attention across the board. To date, the talented songwriter boasts credits for the likes of MNEK, M.O., Shift K3y, Crazy Cousins, Becky Hill & H.E.R – with the latter earning him his first Grammy Award earlier this year.
October 24th will see Ryan play his debut headline show in London at The Curtain Hotel, which will likely kick off a string of further dates to be announced. Sit back and enjoy ‘Innocent’ – fresh, dynamic and forward-thinking R&B from an exciting emerging talent.
