Pop-punk polymath RØRY has shared her new single ‘Kill The Girl’ today. Stream here.
On ‘Kill The Girl’ RØRY delivers another cathartic and confessional blow of infectious pop-punk, mixing nostalgic 00s drum beats with punctuated guitars. About the track they say “KILL THE GIRL is like my origin story for becoming RØRY. It was after (yet another) traumatic break up in 2018 that I knew something had to change. I didn’t want to be that girl any more.”
“Blue hair, some new tattoos, and a new city later…I became a stronger version of myself. I got sober, got therapy, and committed to 18 months of celibacy to figure out what was driving my destructive choices. Needless to say life is a lot better now. Those things work. Sometimes you have to kill the person you were to figure out who you can become.”
‘Kill The Girl’ comes off the back of the supercharged ‘Uncomplicated’ which RØRY released at the end of 2021. After penning the track because her comment on Avril Lavigne’s Tik-Tok blew up, ‘Uncomplicated’ has amassed well over a million streams, going on to see RØRY grace the cover of Spotify’s All New Rock and YouTube’s Noise Riot, alongside eclectic coverage from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Kerrang, PopJustice and Rock Sound, with the latter calling the track “an emotional, sentimental and crushing pop-punk belter.”
Fusing the punchiness of 00s emo pop-punk legends like Blink 182 and Paramore, with the poppier sensibilities of Gen Z’s fresh take on the genre, RØRY’s electrifying musicianship proves to be an exhilarating force, tackling the metamorphic changes in life. Her storytelling doesn’t hold back, addressing addiction, sobriety, ADD and the damages of fame to relationships.
RØRY came to life in 2018 after Roxanne Emery got sober; removing the middle of her name to represent the time she lost to addiction and mental health struggles. She has well and truly cemented herself as a hotly sought after songwriter, with three top ten hits (including the multi-platinum selling ‘Post Malone’ by Sam Feldt), and has written with pop stars Charli XCX, Saweetie, Joel Corry and Jax Jones, rising pop punk prodigy NOAHFINNCE, and alt rock stalwarts All American Rejects, You Me At Six and Circa Waves. RØRY’s career as a songwriter has seen her amass well over 1 billion streams.
RØRY’s debut EP is due 2022.
