After recently dropping the first taste from her eagerly anticipated debut album with the fantastic ‘Lost In Blue’, Rianne Downey today dives into the world of traditional celtic folk with the stunning, mystical ‘The Song Of Old Glencoe’ – out now.

‘The Song Of Old Glencoe’ could be Scotland’s new anthem. A mystical song, with modern anthemic hooks and production, sounds like part of a fairytale, with the chorus lyric ‘Too-loor-a-lie-o’ coming straight out of the traditional songbook and casting an enchanting Celtic spell on the listener – listen HERE.

Rianne explains; “The song is set against a backdrop of Scotland’s enchanted highlands, as I wanted to pay tribute to the traditional songs and folklores of my homeland that I grew up with, whilst writing my own, new tale.”

2024 was quite the year for the Scottish singer-songwriter who finished it on a high, embarking on a nationwide UK tour with Paul Heaton. Having joined Heaton’s band last summer, she’s been a mainstay ever since. She also appeared on his top 5 album The Mighty Several, and this summer Rianne joins Paul for his massive sold out show at Bramall Lane, home to Sheffield United, as well as joining him in the US in Spring.

‘Lost In Blue’ lit up the airwaves last month, firstly premiered by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music before deservedly making its way onto the Radio 2 Playlist, as well as glowing support from The Telegraph, Daily Star & many more.

One of the undoubted highlights for Rianne was their sensational Glastonbury Pyramid Stage set. Since then she’s been working on her debut album at Bear Creek Studio in Seattle with Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Zach Bryan, Vance Joy).

Rianne Downey kick started her career busking the streets of Glasgow, before lockdown covers led to signing to Modern Sky/Run On, with Rianne then moving to Liverpool in 2022 to step things up.

Her first studio exploits were with The Coral’s James Skelly, who produced Fuel to The Flame EP, followed by the release of a series of impressive singles and Eps throughout 2022 and 2023 and honed her live performances supporting The Coral, Paolo Nutini, Tom Jones & Deacon Blue.

With her debut album coming next year, tour dates with Texas, and more headline shows to announce, Rianne Downey is a star very much in the ascendancy. Catch the glow now.
