London-based singer/songwriter RHODES returns with stunning new single ‘Happy’ (listen here). ‘Happy’ was written during a period of self-reflection as RHODES looked back on his past. The personal, introspective track addresses the idea of finding happiness within your life when it may not be easy to reach…
“‘Happy’ is a song about opening our eyes and trying to find happiness in the moment. We live in a world of constant change and huge societal pressure and I felt, for a long time, that I’d been chasing the wrong things in life. It’s easy to hide behind a facade or behind social media, but it just masks what’s really going on underneath, and I know now that I owe it to myself and the people I love to be more present and mindful. Ultimately, I believe happiness is ours to grab we just have to be open to it and I wanted to write about the hope in knowing that if we keep trying we can find true contentment in everything we have.”
‘Happy’ follows RHODES’ sophomore album, Friends Like These, released earlier this year via Nettwerk. Recorded during lockdown alongside producers Rich Cooper and Ash Workman (Christine and the Queens, Metronomy) Friends Like These is a stunning collection of personal tracks, sharing tales of love, loss, friendship, and hope, harnessed by RHODES’ charming vocals. In April, RHODES’ released EP The Pool Sessions, a special selection of tracks from Friends Like These performed live at The Pool Studios in London (listen here).
Friends Like These marked RHODES’ first album release since his 2015 acclaimed debut Wishes (via Sony Music). The album included hit single ‘Let It All Go’, a duet with Birdy which has amassed over 212 million Spotify streams.
RHODES has charmed audiences on a number of headline shows and tours, and opened for the likes of Sam Smith, London Grammar, and Hozier. In February, the songwriter captivated crowds across the UK and Europe while on his highly anticipated headline tour, which concluded with an intimate show at EartH in Hackney, London.
