Making a welcome return, New York City/ Berlin based duo Refs release their first new music of 2020 with brooding new cut Nice. A collaboration with hotly tipped True Panther signee Jonah Mutono. Nice showcases the stellar vocals of Rich Saunders and rich textures of Mutono over intricately crafted beats by Zach Lipkins. Nice is a darker sound from Refs and one that hints towards what is coming next. Speaking on the release, the duo state:
Everyone has a threshold. We take shit for only so long until our animal nature kicks in. For the deep-thinking introverts and the non-confrontational peacekeepers, this can feel a bit explosive from the outside looking in. But in reality, for some of us, it’s been brooding all along.
Nice is the first new music revealed by Refs since their 2019 released EP NOW. A body of work including BONES, a track tapped by Apple to feature in their 2019 iPhone 11 Pro Keynote . With fans in the likes of Complex, Noisey, i-D, Pigeons & Planes, Okayplayer, ELEVATOR and more, Refs have carved themselves a stellar reputation, and Nice is testament to just why. Look out for more soon.
