Following her exceptional live stream performance at Metropolis Studios with Clarks Originals in January, Rachel Foxx has joined forces with long-term producer Joss Ryan for an exciting collaborative UKG EP ‘Never Say Never’, out today.
Coming with an upbeat energy that sees Rachel temporarily step away from her signature R&B vibe, the three-track release opens with the infectious UKG grooves of ‘Show Me Your Love’, with Rachel’s slick vocals paired with a captivating, futuristic 2-step production. With a nostalgic bassline, ‘Love Me For The Last Time’ is a smooth number laced with more old school elements, with Rachel’s emotion-tinged vocals taking centre-stage alongside classic horns over the hook. Closing things out, ‘Walk On By’ is the grittiest track on the project, with a thumping bass that incorporates elements of grime in the production.
“’Never Say Never’ was a concept that came about so naturally,” Rachel explains. “I record so much stuff with Joss either at the studio or at his house and I just leave my vocals with him and Joss just does his thing. I had fun making this project, I really wanted that fun summer feeling back with this one, it’s quite nostalgic and reminds me of school days.”
Inspiration to create the project was sparked after Joss’ remix for Rachel’s single ‘Progress’ last year which features Grime artist Capo Lee. The UKG-influenced remix gained traction online, leading to the pair’s exploration of the genre’s sounds, displayed across this 3-track package.
Earlier this year, Rachel hosted her debut takeover show on Reprezent FM which was fittingly titled Foxx Radio, and mixed by Joss himself. Boasting 10 million streams across her back-catalogue, a sold-out show at Camden Assembly and acclaimed COLORS performance, Rachel Foxx has attracted international attention from the very beginning of her journey, most notably stateside, with LA collective Soulection being one of her earliest supporters.
A London-based music producer and resident studio engineer at Nando’s Soho studio, Joss Ryan is a well-renowned producer behind the scenes. His work with Rachel has seen him produce cuts on her FLUORESCENT EP such as ‘Be Mine’ and ‘What You Need’. Beyond this, Joss has recently worked with the likes of Jimothy Lacoste, Capo Lee and Paigey Cakey. His work has received support from the likes of Benji B, Plastician, Julie Adenuga and Mary Anne Hobbs – the latter of highlighted Joss as One To Watch along with Lianne La Havas during her interview with Guestlist Magazine.
‘Never Say Never’ is a stellar collaboration that brings an exciting new layer to what Rachel Foxx is well-renowned for, with Joss Ryan injecting a much needed slice of summer into this 3-track heater.
