Primal Scream release new song ‘Deep Dark Waters, listen here, from the new studio album Come Ahead, due for release on 8th November 2024 (Pre-order here) – the band’s first new record in eight years.

‘Deep Dark Waters’ hits with urgency. Heavy basslines, shimmering backing vocals and flamenco guitars create a futuristic hook whilst Bobby Gillespie’s lyrics signal a cautionary tale. The track holds up a mirror to the dark undercurrent of our times. We are sailing into Deep Dark Waters. There is still time to change course.

Speaking about the song, Bobby Gillespie said: “Deep Dark Waters is influenced by the writings of Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi. It contains a warning from history. “Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it”.

The official music video for ‘Deep Dark Waters’ is directed by renowned filmmaker and video director Douglas Hart, whose connections with Gillespie span all the way back to The Jesus and Mary Chain, where he played drums in the group and on the band’s classic debut album Psychocandy. The new visuals for ‘Deep Dark Waters’ see Bobby Gillespie and Primal Scream bass player Simone Marie Butler in a full technicolour dreamscape, and mark the latest in a long line of collaborations – Hart has created music videos with Primal Scream since 1991.

Come Ahead is Primal Scream’s 12th full length record and first new music since 2016’s Chaosmosis. 11 new songs that find the group’s principal songwriter, vocalist and frontman Bobby Gillespie preparing to release some of the most personal songwriting of his band’s career.

The songwriting process for Come Ahead began in 2022, at which point Bobby Gillespie had no idea if he would make another Primal Scream album again. For the first time in a long time, the lyrics came before the music. The story came first. Bobby wrote alone, using an acoustic guitar. Ideas flowed fast, in long bursts of inspiration.
