Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Peter Manos releases Do You Turn Red? (Reimagined), a reworking of his acclaimed 2020 debut EP. A collaboration with GRAMMY-winning British artist Kindness, the EP places Manos’ soulful vocals amidst new textures that reveal fresh dimensions of an artist who’s already been hailed by Flaunt as “your favorite new R&B singer.” Listen to the EP HERE, and watch visualizers for each song HERE.
Do You Turn Red? (Reimagined) completely reinvents each track from Manos’ debut EP. This version of “In My Head” adds glassy strings to the tangle of heavy emotions on Manos’ 2019 Gold-certified breakthrough, which was named a Song You Need to Know by Rolling Stone, has garnered 350 million streams globally, and appeared on the soundtrack to Netflix’s To All the Boys: Always and Forever. “Tennessee,” which The New York Times said encapsulated “pure male angst,” gets an immersive rework that swaps gentle piano for the original’s plush synths.
One highlight of Do You Turn Red? (Reimagined) is “You Don’t Know Me (Reimagined),” a gentle update that stretches Manos’ voice over a skipping beat and looped guitar. Kindness’ reimagination surrounds Manos’ lament with music that pushes forward, lending a glimmer of hope to his meditations. Watch the visualizer for “You Don’t Know Me (Reimagined)” HERE.
Manos is a longtime admirer of Kindness, the musical project of artist, producer, educator, and songwriter Adam Bainbridge. While Kindness’ career has been full of collaborations with the likes of Solange, Robyn, Kelela, and Blood Orange, Do You Turn Red? (Reimagined) marks the first time that the fiercely solo Manos has worked so closely with another artist.
“I love these new versions because they are interpretations of these songs that I would have never come up with on my own,” says Manos. “The arrangements, the playing, the way that Kindness emphasized my vocals—there are so many different things I love about them.”
Do You Turn Red? (Reimagined) marks Kindness’ first proper credit as a mixer. Speaking to the process, they said, “Peter asked if I would re-imagine his existing EP and so begun a process of complete reworking. These 7 songs are all original production and instrumentation. Mixed in live takes (no automation!).”
By placing Manos’ voice in new contexts, Kindness further reveals the soul at the heart of Do You Turn Red? “From the beginning, we had the idea of working with Kindness and this was the perfect opportunity,” says Manos. “Adam’s work brought me into a world I wasn’t as familiar with. It has changed the way I view a lot of music.” Do You Turn Red? (Reimagined) offers the first glimpse of Manos’ new outlook, and the infinite possibilities contained in his intimate art.
