Pet Shop Boys will publish the 2023 edition of their Annually book on April 14. The 64-page hardback book will include an exclusive CD EP titled “Lost” of four tracks recorded in 2015:
The lost room
I will fall
Skeletons in the closet
Kaputnik
The four songs were written, and recorded as demos in London and Berlin in 2015 for potential inclusion on the album “Super”, but were not used, “not because we didn’t like them,” says Neil Tennant, “but because they didn’t fit the album.” The decision to release them now on an EP was made because “they all sit together quite well, production-wise, they’re all super-electronic,” and also “some of them are sort of relevant to the world at the moment”. The EP takes its title from the first song, “The lost room”, but “it also seems to represent a sort of larger, philosophical or political point, where there’ve been times recently where the world feels a bit lost in terms of the direction it’s going in.”
All songs were written and produced by Pet Shop Boys and mixed/engineered by Pete Gleadall. Cover artwork is by Farrow/PSB. Pet Shop Boys produce a new issue of “Annually” every year and the 2023 edition features a host of special content including the following:
A diary and behind-the-scenes photos from the first leg of the Dreamworld tour, including headlining the Other Stage at the Glastonbury Festival. Neil and Chris discuss the Pet Shop Boys/New Order co-headline Unity tour of North America, with exclusive photographs by New Order’s creative director Warren Jackson.
From the archive – a feature and photos reprinted from The Face magazine in 1993, covering PSB’s first visit to Russia, when they launched MTV Russia and shot some of the ‘Go West’ video in Moscow. Neil and Chris also give their memories of this trip from almost 30 years later. News from this past year and information about future plans.
Exclusive photos, answers to selected letters and more.
‘Pet Shop Boys Annually 2023’, including the special 4-track CD ‘Lost’ can be pre-ordered exclusively from the PSB store for £25 (plus P&P). The book will ship from the UK on April 14; delivery dates will vary depending on local postal services.
The “Lost” EP will also be released on digital platforms in mid-April.
Pet Shop Boys will be commencing work on their next studio album this spring and have announced new tour dates for late spring/summer.
