Multi-platinum, Brit Award winning superstar and pop visionary Paloma Faith, today releases her brand new album ‘The Glorification of Sadness’, alongside single ‘Sweatpants’ via RCA Records. Listen to the album here, and check our our review here
The latest single ‘Sweatpants’ and opening track of the new album sets the stage with an emotive blend of acoustic guitar and stirring strings, while the lyricism paints a vulnerable portrayal of the expectations placed on women.
‘The Glorification of Sadness’ is a sonically vivid album, with a leading message of female empowerment and the importance of living authentically. Previous single ‘Bad Woman’ is an epic power anthem, following Paloma on a gritty journey of new-found independence; ‘How You Leave A Man’, produced by award-winning producer and composer Martin Wave and co-written with JKash, Andrew Wells, Ellie King and Charlie Puth, bravely broadcasts the importance of not sticking with monotony, backed by a distorted guitar solo and a grand unravelling of strings; while ‘Pressure ft. Kojey Radical’ follows the singer on a deeply personal and expansive journey through defying the status quo in a bid to fight against pressure and expectations.
‘Divorce’ is an expansive and deeply personal ballad, with Paloma’s children providing an emotional voiceover in a track that draws on the hurt brought by the breakdown of a relationship, and with it a family; while ‘Cry On The Dance Floor’ is a pop fantasy, with an infectious dance beat and fierce independent energy. The concept album follows a chronological order, navigating fresh wounds and grief, therapizing Paloma’s darker feelings of rage and sadness, while also celebrating the hopeful highs.
On the album Paloma Faith comments, “The album itself is about taking responsibility for your own happiness , it’s about being empowered by even your failures because god knows we all fail. It’s about divine femininity and strength. The track listing runs chronologically through the course of a long term relationship breakdown that involves children (because that is a very different experience to the cut and runs of youth). It is a love letter to the self in all its grotesque and shameful glory and a testament to the strength and fragility of the human condition.”
‘The Glorification of Sadness’ is more than an album about relationships. The celebration of finding your way back after leaving a long term relationship, being empowered even in your failures and taking responsibility for your own happiness. It is her most personal album to date, drawing on her own experiences with Paloma acting as the anchor to direct a deeply personal narrative and album.
Fans will also be delighted to hear that, to celebrate this next era in style, Paloma will embark on the ‘The Glorification Of Sadness Tour 2024’ tour across the UK and Europe. The tour kicks off in Reading, with a headline show at The Hexagon and includes a headline show at London’s Eventim Apollo concluding with a show in Lincoln. Tickets are on sale now.
