Ahead of the release of their sophomore album ‘Life After’ on July 12th via Fiction, Palace today reveal ‘Face In The Crowd’ – the final track to be made available from the album ahead of its release – alongside a hauntingly beautiful session version recorded at Hoxa Studios in London. As one of the most tender moments on ‘Life After’, ‘Face In The Crowd’ truly shines in this format, building into a soaring melancholia. ‘Face In The Crowd’ follows single ‘Running Wild’ which is currently being supported by Annie Mac and Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1.
The London-based band have also recently announced full UK and European tours for October and November this year, culminating in their biggest live show to date at Camden Roundhouse, as well as Glastonbury, Latitude, Truck and Mad Cool Festivals this July. After demoing the ‘Life After’ tracks at their Tottenham studio The Arch, Palace turned to Catherine Marks (2018’s UK Producer of the Year; St Vincent, Wolf Alice and PJ Harvey) at Willesden’s Assault & Battery studios and Luke Smith (Foals, Slow Club) at Jump Studios in Tottenham to record the album in summer 2018.
“We worked with three different producers in Catherine Marks, Luke Smith and Dani Spragg”Says frontman Leo Wyndham; “It was intense but an incredible learning process. Catherine taught us to really seek the heart of the song and build it around that, Luke taught us to think outside the box and experiment and Dani taught us to have fun and that imperfections are special too.”
‘Life After’ is a stunning album with a clear message; hope. Its eleven tracks are among the finest the band have produced, full of the melodic warmth and rich textures that earned them legions of fans overnight following the release of their debut EP in 2014. It is an album in equal parts about loss as well as a manual to moving on, stronger than before. Having built a dedicated live following through mesmerising shows at some of the country’s finest venues, Palace will play some of the world’s biggest festivals this summer before the autumn tour, with live dates below and more to be announced soon:
