Summer concert series Live at York Museum Gardens have announced Nile Rodgers & CHIC as the latest headliner for July’s weekend of unique performances. The disco funk trailblazer is bringing his iconic band to the grounds of the city’s cherished landmark on Friday 4th July, alongside very special guest Jalen Ngonda and more to be announced.
An innovator in every sense of the word, Nile Rodgers has undoubtedly had a hand in shaping contemporary music as we know it. A founding member of CHIC, Rodgers is responsible for perennial hits such as ‘Everybody Dance’, ‘I Want Your Love’ and ‘Good Times’, which has become one of the most-sampled songs of all time. A prolific producer and creative collaborator too, Rodgers has worked with a multitude of likeminded musical legends including David Bowie, Madonna, Coldplay, Beyoncé and Daft Punk; with their indelible 2013 collaboration ‘Get Lucky’ now one of the UK’s best-ever selling singles.
Joining Nile Rodgers & CHIC is the captivating Jalen Ngonda. The US-born singer and songwriter found his voice in Liverpool and will be bringing his transatlantic blend of classic soul, hip hop and contemporary jazz to York for the first time this summer.
This latest announcement for the Live at York Museum Gardens series comes with the news that this year’s opening night, headlined by critically acclaimed British art rockers Elbow, has fully sold out much like the inaugural July 2024 weekend which saw 12,000 music fans enjoy unforgettable performances from the likes of Shed Seven, Jack Savoretti, Peter Doherty and more.
From bringing musical legends like Nile Rogers & Elbow to York along with providing an incredible platform for rising regional talent, the event’s promoters, Leeds based Futuresound Group and York Museums Trust are looking forward to another year of creative collaboration to deliver amazing outdoor summer concerts.
