ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN have released a reimagined version of their timeless classic THE KILLING MOON, streaming everywhere from now and available as an instant grat via iTunes and the band’s official artist store.
In 2015 Ian McCulloch told The Guardian: “I’ve always said that The Killing Moon is the greatest song ever written”. A track that partly appeared in a dream, with a lyric half-credited by the author to God, it is one of the most perfect pieces of pop music ever written. This new version is an unprecedented showcase for Ian McCulloch’s voice; a raw and exposed instrument set against a sparse backdrop of piano and strings to create a truly incredible companion piece to the peerless 1984 original.
THE KILLING MOON is taken from the forthcoming ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN album THE STARS, THE OCEANS & THE MOON, released by BMG on 5 October. As previously revealed, the album sees the band return to their peerless back catalogue to reinterpret thirteen of their most beloved songs with ‘strings and things’, alongside the new tracks HOW FAR and THE SOMNAMBULIST. Recorded at The Dog House.
The album will be released via BMG in the following formats:
Limited double picture disc; available from the band’s online store only
Limited luminous double vinyl; available from HMV and independent shops only
Standard double heavyweight vinyl; cassette; CD; and all digital platforms
