Ready to soundtrack your weekend with some fresh tunes? New Music Friday is here, bringing you a dose of musical inspiration and discovery!
THE SCRIPT – AT YOUR FEET
The Script now share their latest new music ‘At Your Feet’. It’s the latest single from their new album ‘Satellites’ which follows on August 16th. Listen HERE.
‘At Your Feet’ unites The Script’s two key strengths: the soaring choruses and dramatic quiet/loud dynamics which makes them an irresistible live force, together with the personal connection that comes from Danny O’Donoghue’s flair for crafting lyrics rich with powerful, intimate emotions.
The idea for the song came when Danny was watching football on television and one of the pundits said, “He plays with the world on his shoulders when it should be at his feet.” Danny turned those words into a lyric that will resonate with so many people: “I’d rather take the world off your shoulders and put it at your feet.”
‘At Your Feet’ was produced by hitmaker Steve Robson (One Direction, Rascal Flatts) and joins ‘Both Ways’ in driving anticipation for the ‘Satellites’ album which is available to pre-order/pre-save HERE.
The album is available as a limited edition hardback book CD, black vinyl and standard CD. The Script’s official artist store also offers a limited edition white vinyl, cassette and new merchandise, and anyone who pre-orders the album via the official store will have the chance to win a very special prize package: the jacket that Danny wore when he met the Queen as well as signed, handwritten lyrics to a Script song of your choice.
The Script are currently on a world tour as special guests to P!nk, with dates running through until late October. They then embark upon a huge UK and European tour in November, with many dates already sold-out and phenomenal demand resulting in extra nights added in Belfast and Dublin – all shows contributing to The Script playing to a total audience of 2 million people this year. The tour features special guest Tom Walker at all shows from November 13th through to December 7th.
Remaining tickets and a full list of all international shows are available HERE.
JAMES MCVEY – LETTERS HOME
The romantic ideal of being a touring musician is wonderful: hitting the stage each night, seeing new places, the camaraderie of being surrounded by your friends, and enjoying the space to be creative whenever the mood takes. Yet that’s often not the reality. But it’s something that The Vamps star and confessional singer-songwriter James McVey relished when he toured with Henry Moodie earlier this year. It was a time of such inspiration that he wrote and recorded an entire set of songs on the bus, while waiting for soundcheck, or late into the night after gigs. Today he shares those songs with the release of his second solo EP ‘Letters Home’. Listen HERE.
As we’ve discovered from the EP’s previous singles, the process inspired a period of intense reflection within James’s new music. First, ‘All The Things’ presented a tender rumination on the small things in life that you only realise are important when you’re apart. And then the stomping folk-rock singalong ‘Thick And Thin’ remembered those defining moments that come as your life-long friendships are cemented.
James will be back on tour with The Vamps in September. Phenomenal public demand saw every show quickly sell-out, resulting in three additional dates being added. But expect his solo adventures to continue soon.
WILLIE COBB – COUNTRY PUNKIN
Picking up steam as an artist to watch, Southern alt rocker Willy Cobb serves up a smoking and scorching new EP entitled Country Punkin’ out now via War Buddha / Warner Records. Listen to Country Punkin’ HERE.
The project continues to distinguish him as a sonic maverick armed with country grit, rock ‘n’ roll spirit, punk fire, and a psychedelic perspective all his own. Among many highlights, fuzzed-out guitar underlines shoegaze vocals on “Burnin’.” Emotion overflows from the climactic chorus, “But every other thing you said is burnin’ through my head.” Then, there’s “Daddy On Drugs.” Relaying a dark little tale, a loose riff snakes around the beat as he exhales, “Daddy on drugs, hate it to break it to you.” Cut from a different cloth, the five-track EP affirms Willy as a new kind of musical outlaw.
Not caring what people think is a crucial aspect of Cobb’s view of himself and his music. While he credits other like-minded Southern artists who flout easy genre labels, Cobb considers himself to be on a unique mission to connect with fans who might feel like outsiders in their communities.
LU.CI – JEALOUSY
Lu.Ci has found an inspiring strength in her independence, building a natural buzz which has resulted in two #1 smashes on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart as well as a pair of Top 30 hits on the Official Singles Sales Chart – plus a Global Big Top 40 track and support from Radio 1, Capital FM, Amazing Radio and Heart. Continuing to be discovered by new audiences, Lu.Ci now targets her biggest crossover moment yet with new music and her latest track ‘Jealousy’. Listen HERE.
A big part of Lu.Ci’s momentum has been her infectiously optimistic spirit and that’s something which emanates from ‘Jealousy’. Majestic house keys are the order of the day as it kicks off, but Lu.Ci takes the song in a surprising direction with maximalist dance-pop vigour given a distinctive quality with rolling pop-rock drums and gritty guitar textures. Her diva-next-door vocal gift lights up a song which not only dismisses the haters, but finds Lu.Ci celebrating everything about who she really is. It all makes ‘Jealousy’ a song that can unlock the next step in her rise.
RUBBERBAND GIRL – NOTHING BUT A SMILE
After just two official singles Rubberband Girl has carved a space in which she can build a big future, uniting a voice of star quality with stellar songwriting and lyrical themes which speaks to many generations. After taking strong strides forward with ‘South Suburban Weekend’ and ‘Star In A Reasonably Priced Car’, her trajectory continues with more new music with today’s release of her third single ‘Nothing But A Smile’. Listen HERE.
‘Nothing But A Smile’ sees Rubberband Girl pushing her already versatile sound into sleek, sophisticated disco – a little like a twenty-something equivalent to Jessie Ware or Sophie-Ellis Bextor. Her lyrics tap into the heartache and anxieties that come with young adult life but instead of wallowing in sadness, the song becomes a spirit-boosting anthem of remembering your own qualities. Whatever things might be dragging you down right now will soon be forgotten as better things wait on the horizon.
