On May 6th, Neil Young will deliver three more rare live recordings from his extensive archives as the latest releases in his Official Bootleg Series. The albums are ‘Royce Hall, 1971’, a solo acoustic gig which was recorded January 30th on the UCLA campus; ‘Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971’ is also a solo acoustic performance and was the last US show of his 1971 solo tour; and ‘Citizen Kane Jr. Blues (Live at The Bottom Line)’ is a surprise set from New York City, 1974. The Official Bootleg Series commenced last autumn with ‘Carnegie Hall 1970’.
Where analogue tape exists in Young’s archive, these concerts have been mixed properly, providing much higher quality recordings than have previously existed – ‘Royce Hall’ and ‘Dorothy Chandler Pavilion 1971’ are from the original analogue masters. If no tape exists, the original bootleg has been restored and remastered to bring listeners the best audio experience possible, as is the case with ‘Citizen Kane Jr. Blues (Live at The Bottom Line)’.
The albums will be release on vinyl, CD and digital formats, and are now available to pre-order here. All pre-orders will receive an instant download of a track from the relevant album: ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down’ (from ‘Dorothy Chandler Pavilion’), ‘Journey Through The Past’ (from ‘Royce Hall’) and ‘Revolution Blues’ (from ‘Citizen Kane Jr. Blues’).
The original bootleg artwork has also been replicated wherever possible, lending each release that treasured collector’s vibe and conjuring the era they were first created in. The ‘Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971’ album cover, for example, features the worn and faded ring of an LP.
