modernlove. are currently an ocean away from home, but their debut North American headline tour has seen them greeted like homecoming heroes, with four shows sold-out – including New York and next week’s final gig in Los Angeles. The tour has shown that the band’s recent releases have made a global impact, with influential support from Radio 1 (Jack Saunders and Gemma Bradley) and Radio X (John Kennedy) matched by mounting critical acclaim. All of which makes it the perfect time for the young Irish quartet to release their new EP ‘NIGHTLIFE’. Listen HERE.
The EP features their recent singles ‘until my heart stops beating’, ‘Ruin Your Night’, ‘Take Me Far Away’ and ‘Only Ever Only You’ as well as two previously unreleased songs in the shape of the title track and ‘Solipsis’. It is released alongside a chaotic visualiser which races through all the pictures from the boys’ incredible 18 months from their first London show to their current debut tour of the US.
Vocalist/guitarist Barry Lally says, “‘Nightlife’ is about all of the messy nights we’ve had as a band growing up. The music reflects how much fun those nights might have felt in the moment but the narrative of the song recognises that it’s not healthy for the minds and relationships of communities of young people to carry on like this and that in retrospect, these were not ‘good nights’. There’s a chaotic vibe that builds to a sonic climax in the bridge of the song echoing the hedonism and debauchery of these times.”
Inspired by the band’s own experiences, the ‘NIGHTLIFE’ EP paints a picture of young people’s lives: the highs and the lows, the triumphs and insecurities that come with partying, drinking too much and falling in-and-out of love. While the music is almost entirely uplifting, lyrically it captures the tumultuous emotions that arise as teenagers transcend into young adulthood.
All six songs were written by modernlove. – completed by Graham Fagen (guitar), Daniel Rooney (bass), and Cian McCluskey (drums) – and were co-produced by the band alongside Tom Leach (Lewis Capaldi, Years & Years) and Adam Redmond. The EP follows the recent release of the band’s first ever vinyl, the limited edition compilation ‘So Far’.
modernlove.’s current North American tour (which also included SXSW) adds another landmark moment to a live reputation which flourishes with every run of shows. Their debut UK headline tour late last year sold-out months in advance, while very limited tickets remain HERE for next month’s UK tour, which will see them play their biggest headline show to date at London’s Lafayette. Their summer festival schedule is also taking shape with Latitude, Live At Leeds, Tramlines, Truckand Vic
