Bewitching dream pop duo Moon Panda announce the news of their new album Sing Spaceship, Sing, due for release 21st July. Accompanying the announcement is new single ‘Starfruit’ – stream here and pre-order the album here.
Dosed with woozy atmospherics reminiscent of summer nights, ‘Starfruit’ is a glowing, delicious addition to the Moon Panda catalogue. Speaking about the track, singer and bassist Maddy Myers says: “Starfruit has this really delicate verse where I’m basically asking to be held and cared for and then when the chorus hits it’s just this complete freedom and boldness. It’s kind of about deciding to rebuild yourself and the world around you in the way you want to see it ‘it went dark then I reimagined, and it grew..it’s new, another way to build it from the bottom, a loud noise followed by a soft hum…’”
Inspired by feelings of joy and human connection as the world returned from the grip of the pandemic, Sing Spaceship, Sing rides thick with experimental sound bites, oozing an infectious energy that strikes harder with each listen. Lined 12 tracks deep, the record exudes rhythmic distortion, soft yet striking vocals, alongside delicate guitar strums tied together with laid back drum beats. The Times praised recent single ‘Tangerine Light’ saying “this groovy synth-enhanced psychedelic pop by the Danish/Californian duo is the perfect accompaniment to glowing twilit moments”.
Recently Moon Panda announced that they will be embarking on a headline UK tour this October, playing dates in Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester, London and Bristol. Full dates below and tickets here.
Composed of Californian vocalist/bassist Maddy Myers and Danish guitarist Gustav Moltke, Moon Panda signed to legendary British label Fierce Panda for their second EP Make Well in 2020. The release earned critical acclaim for its luscious, blissed out vibes across grooving bass lines with BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne declaring ‘Slow Drive’ her “favourite track of the year so far…top of the pile for me.”
Sing Spaceship, Sing heralds a new era for Moon Panda, who released their debut album What On Earth last year. The album saw support from the likes of MOJO, The Independent, The New Cue, Loud & Quiet and The Line of Best Fit, who in their 8/10 review praised the record for “evoking a sense of otherworldly dreaminess”.
