Hailing from the stunning landscapes of Denmark and California, ethereal dream pop duo Moon Panda have today announced their debut album ‘What On Earth’, due for release March 4th via legendary indie label Fierce Panda Records.
The band also share lead track ‘Vacationer’ (stream here), as well as headline UK tour dates for October and November 2021, including London’s The Lexington on the 28th October (tickets here).
Filled with wanderlust, Moon Panda draw you into their world on ‘Vacationer’, led by soft, mystical vocals from the band’s bassist Maddy Myers. About the new track she says “We wrote ‘Vacationer’ right after a pretty pivotal point in our lives. We had all flown out to the US to play SXSW 2020 and as soon as we landed, we read that they had banned all international flights and that SXSW was cancelled! We were all feeling a little lost and buzzing with all this energy we had built up for the festival. So, we drove our rented van around to all these national parks, hiked around, and made makeshift studios everywhere we went. We’d stopped rehearsing and started jamming. It changed the way I thought about music and making music. All of us hunched over our instruments, sitting on a cheap shag carpet, losing our minds and our worries in the music. It was like being in a trance. We ended up making an epic adventure from a really scary time. ‘Vacationer’ is about that adventure.”
‘Vacationer’ appears on the band’s forthcoming debut album ‘What On Earth’ due for release March 4th 2022 via Fierce Panda Records, alongside the hypnotic ‘Rabbit’ taken from their 2019 debut EP ‘Pastel Pool’, and as ‘Slow Drive’, which appeared on their most recent EP ‘Make Well’ – between them clocking up well over 1.75 million streams on Spotify alone.
‘What On Earth’ sees Moon Panda gently lull you into their entrancing and dynamic escapist soundscape of dream pop and shoegaze. Speaking further about the album Maddy says “Writing this whole album was basically a tool for self-soothing all of our anxious minds. This time it felt monumental, maybe because the entire world was going through something together.”
Moon Panda are comprised of vocalist/bassist Maddy Myers and guitarist Gustav Moltke. Following the release of ‘Pastel Pool’ in 2019, the band signed to legendary British label Fierce Panda for their second EP ‘Make Well’ in 2020. The release earned critical acclaim for it’s luscious, blissed out vibes across grooving bass lines with BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne declaring ‘Slow Drive’ her ‘favourite track of the year so far…top of the pile for me.’
As the love from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and radio stations across the globe grew, Moon Panda realised they were accidentally indulging in a spot of public service broadcasting: as the streaming figures multiplied, so did the messages of thanks from the lockdowned masses across the globe who were using the duos’ music to transport themselves out of their locked down discomfort zones. ‘Slow Drive’ was featured in episode 5 of CBS Studios’ ‘The Republic Of Sarah’, which was broadcast on North American TV channel The CW in July 2021. Having notable shows supporting The Japanese House, Slow Club and Psychedelic P*rn Crumpets – Moon Panda have toured throughout the UK and Denmark, as well as being selected to play SXSW 2020.
