Hot off the back of triumphant sets at Reading and Leeds Festivals, SUBURBS is the eagerly anticipated new single from fast-rising UK indie quartet MARSICANS – produced by Mickey Dale from Embrace; and mixed and mastered by the multi-Grammy award winning duo of Fernando Lodeiro [Paul McCartney, Vampire Weekend] and Joe LaPorta [David Bowie, Imagine Dragons] – featuring their distinctive harmony-laden, upbeat indie meets dirty pop sound.
Speaking about the new single, front man James Newbigging explains: “Suburbs is about the feeling of not being comfortable where you are. I’d just got back from a pretty hectic few weeks away and I was looking forward to being home. But then I kept getting bored straight away. I guess it’s kind of about wanting more all the time: more experiences; a change of scenery; but not quite knowing why you want it or why you need it. I started over-thinking things quite needlessly. I remember going past a man mowing the grass, making sure the curb edge was pristine, and it made me question everything. I don’t know, I was probably having a quarter-life crisis”.
SUBURBS follows the recent single POP-UPS [SUNNY AT THE WEEKEND], a track that unsurprisingly picked up rave reviews including the Sunday Times Hottest Track; BBC Radio 1 support from the likes of Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Abbie McCarthy – who made it her BBC Introducing Tip of the Week – and BBC 6Music; and reached #2 on the Hype Machine Top 10 Most Blogged Artists of the Week and support from Spotify – including New Music Friday in the UK and Japan – The Indie List, Summer Indie, Hot New Bands, Transistor and One Week One Playlist.
After touring with Clean Cut Kid, Jaws and Hippo Campus, playing a sold-out debut headline tour earlier this year including dates in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and the 800-capacity Leeds Church, and a jam-packed festival season that culminated in the band playing to huge crowds at the BBC Radio 1 stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals, MARSICANS are now announced as support for FICKLE FRIENDS on their UK tour this autumn.
