Marina wrote and recorded the track in London with Jessica Agombar and David Stewart, the duet who produced and co-wrote BTS’ record-breaking brand new track ‘Dynamite’, and Eyelar (Charlie XCX, Little Mix, Demi Lovato). The sombre ‘Double Life’ perfectly showcases her captivating vocals as an instrument in its own right, floating over electro-pop and R&B influenced melodies. Through metaphorical lyrics, the 22 years old French singer-songwriter portrays the question of leading two separate and very different lives, both when we’re with others or alone behind closed doors.
Speaking about the track, Marina says, “Double life is about everyone in life. We all have that side we can’t show anyone. I wrote the song next to a Jack The Ripper museum and I thought it was funny to write about being someone during the day and someone else during the night”
In 2011, Marina went on to win La France a un incroyable talent (France’s Got Talent) at the age of just 13 years old. One year later, she was signed to TGIT Music to prepare her first album. In 2015 her debut single ‘Homeless’ reached Number 1 in France and Marina’s first album Fearless also reached Number 1, now certified triple platinum. To date, the singer has gathered over 90 million YouTube views.
Marina’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed: Sia has written her a song, ‘Freeze You Out’ (listen here) — which has seen more than 11 million views on YouTube, and Marina has supported the likes of Lindsey Stirling and Thirty Seconds to Mars — who also asked her to come on stage and perform ‘Dangerous Night’. To date Marina has played over a hundred headline live shows.
After the release of ‘The Whole 9’, ‘Twisted’ and now ‘Double Life’, more dark pop is on its way for the French singer-songwriter. 2020 is to be a landmark for Marina Kaye and her devoted fanbase.
