The‘Anticlimax’ acoustic video sees Mae performing the soulful pop track in the relaxed settings of a London cafe, showcasing her stripped back vocals as she laments about her lucky escape from a past love accompanied by her stripped back band.
Talking about the original version Mae explains, “Anticlimax” is a feel-good song about a not so good situation. I wanted to capture that feeling of disappointment when you’ve liked someone for ages and then you finally end up giving it a go and it’s nothing like what you thought it would be! It all works out in the end though because it made me realise my worth and that I don’t have time for a time waster!”
Following on from the success of her previous singles, ’Jenny’ and ‘Leave It Out’ Mae’s sound is influenced by the likes of H.E.R and Julia Michaels and describes her music as her weapon. “I won’t write a sad song; I’ll write a bad bitch thing like ‘I’m going to mess your life up’. It’s my way of feeling strong”. Mae’s unfolding sound is quickly becoming affiliated with female empowerment a common theme heard throughout her music, Mae’s sound always displays her London roots. She explains, “North London shaped me as a person and as an artist”.
