Following its initial release in 2021, world-renowned composer Ludovico Einaudi invites his long-standing friend, the Turkish-Canadian DJ and composer Mercan Dede, to remix another selection of his classic hits for Ludovico Einaudi: Mercan Dede Reimagined, Volume 2.
Today sees the release of Mercan Dede Reimagined Volume 2, Chapter 1, which features tracks Divenire (a collaboration with Canadian artist Kora) and Uno from Einaudi’s 2006 album (Divenire).
The whole project sees twelve of Einaudi’s popular tracks, many of which are live performance recordings, hand-picked and remixed by Dede, each featuring entrancing laid back, middle eastern-infused beats. Created with the vision to bring Einaudi’s works into today’s contemporary electronic music soundscape.
Of the project, Mercan Dede says: “Ludovico’s music is magical, meaningful, dimensional, complex, yet quite pure and minimal at the same time. It is full of all emotions, exactly like Ludovico himself. I am quite honoured to be given the opportunity to freely reimagine his melodies and arrangements in my own world.”
The twelve tracks are split into two volumes of three chapters, with each chapter containing two songs. The three chapters of Volume 1 were released throughout 2021, and the three chapters of Volume 2 will be released in June, July and September of 2022.
An established visual artist, Dede’s original paintings have also been used as central elements of the cover art of each volume.
Working from his home in Montreal in collaboration with young Australian DJ and producer Dexter Crowe as his studio engineer, Dede channels the influences of organic house, downtempo, melodic techno, and traditional Eastern instrumentation into a new kind of orchestra. Powerful beats, infectious grooves, emotive soundscapes and deeply expressive melodies unite in this new world.
