2023 marks the 10-year anniversary of Ludovico Einaudi’s platinum selling album In A Time Lapse. To celebrate this landmark occasion, Decca Records will release a special deluxe edition of the album on triple gatefold vinyl featuring the original 14 tracks alongside 5 bonus tracks which were previously exclusive to iTunes, and all 7 official remixes.
In A Time Lapse followed on from 2009’s Nightbook, where Einaudi integrated more instrumentation than ever before. Fully embracing the range of possibilities this provided him, In A Time Lapse, utilised the larger ensemble of piano, strings, percussion, and electronics to full effect from delicate tracks such as Waterways and the haunting Underwood through to expansive songs such as Life, Experience and Newton’s Cradle.
Composed over a period of two years and recorded in a monastery near Verona in 2012, In A Time Lapse, develops as a suite with a concept that recalls the form of a novel divided in different chapters, exploring new textures and arrangements blending different musical worlds into one.
Within the classical style of Einaudi, in this album you can hear echoes of baroque and Italian folk music, late romantic strings textures, and a wide variety of colours between percussions and electronics, which guides the listener on a journey of deep reflection on the idea of time. Ludovico explains “when you get conscious that our time is limited, it’s the moment where you try to fill that space with all your energy and emotions and start to imagine beyond the limits and live every moment of your life as fully as when you were a child”.
2022 was an outstanding year for Einaudi who released his first solo piano album in 20 years, Underwater. The album peaked in the Top 20 of the Official UK Album Charts, marking Einaudi’s 11th Classical No.1 album and becoming the UK’s fastest-streamed classical album of all time. Last year saw Einaudi’s best year for streaming yet with a 56% growth across all platforms racking up over 550 million streams and 2.8 million followers on Spotify alone. Currently, Einaudi boasts 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. 2022 also saw Einaudi embark on a global tour, including three sold out shows at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall. This came only months after 5 sold out nights at London’s Hammersmith Eventim Apollo and Alexandra Palace. In October this year, Ludovico will return to the UK for 4 arena shows in Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham and Liverpool. Full details and ticket information are below.
