Love Fame Tragedy, the acclaimed solo project from Matthew “Murph” Murphy, guitarist and lead singer of alt-pop chart-toppers The Wombats, today unveil their latest single ‘Don’t You Want To Sleep With Someone Normal?’. Listen here. Produced by Jacknife Lee (The Killers, U2), the track is the second offering from their upcoming second album, Life Is A Killer, out 29th March via Bright Antenna Records.
‘Don’t You Want To Sleep With Someone Normal?’ is a semi-fictionalised representation of a hugely tumultuous time in Murph’s life and marriage; a glossy pop self-portrait of someone in complete freefall, interspersed with real life voice notes from his wife Akemi.
Speaking on the track, Murph says “’This song is mainly about making light of all the crap I put my wife and myself through over the last 5 years or so. All the mistakes, all the empty apologies, and all the comically hellish scenarios I would put us in. Jacknife Lee took all this and then made it sound magical.”
Life Is A Killer (PREORDER/SAVE HERE)is Murph’s truest album to date. As the songwriter navigates his way through balancing life as a new father of two and touring the world with The Wombats, he explores themes of self-reflection and the struggles of managing family life. Written over a span of two and half years in between London and LA, this is the most lyrically raw music Murph has ever released, enlisting the help of producers Jacknife Lee and Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag N Bone Man, The Wombats) to push his sonic boundaries further than ever.
Named after a revered Pablo Picasso exhibition at the Tate Modern, Love Fame Tragedy’s debut album Wherever I go, I Want To Leave garnered widespread support and was followed by The Wombats first ever UK #1 album, the acclaimed Fix Yourself, Not The World, and a worldwide tour that included a headline show at London’s The O2.
