‘Built For This’ also offers a different sound to the rest of the EP. Whereas ‘Safe’ opens the EP with multi-textured alt-pop, ‘Built For This’ is pared down to little more than vocals and piano. Lessening the sonic depth heightens the song’s emotional impact, as Nick’s soaring voice bristles with anguish and despair.
“‘Love and Heartache’ is a culmination of the past year for me. I really wanted to put something out that felt like both the new and old parts of me. It’s a collection of songs about the extremes of emotion, whether it’s a breakup or an internal struggle within, and the lows and highs that come with any change in situation” says Nick.
Released via Never Fade Records (home to artists including Gabrielle Aplin and Anna Straker), ‘Love and Heartache’ perfectly encapsulates Nick’s appeal. It demonstrates his ability to craft immediately relatable songs from personal experiences.
