South London singer/songwriter Lola Young presents her brand new album, This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway (Stream Here), along with her latest single, ‘Good Books’.

This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway marks a remarkable shift in Lola’s sound as an artist. Recorded in LA and produced by friend and collaborator Solomonophic (Remi Wolf, BROCKHAMPTON, Dominic Fike), This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway is crackling with kinetic energy and lyrically fuelled by rage, passion, narrative flair and comedy derision.

Lola’s album begins with the atmospheric, percussive dreamscape of her new single, ‘Good Books’ which features the ultimatum “it’s me or the weed”. The song was premiered as the ‘New Music Daily’ feature on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show earlier this week.

‘Wish You Were Dead’ is the epitome of chiming, dynamic grunge-pop; meanwhile, Lola’s unapologetic attitude arrives in abundance in offerings ‘F**k’ and ‘Big Brown Eyes’. Fan favourite ‘Conceited’ encapsulates an Arctic Monkeys-esque, indie sleaze groove which has won over crowds from London to Los Angeles.

‘Intrusive Thoughts’ is a sparse, melancholic offering that reflects those unwelcome ways of thinking. ‘You Noticed’ is Lola’s most tender moment to date, with intimate vocals almost whispering over an acoustic guitar. ‘Messy’, which was awarded BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record on its release, boasts a parade of witty one-liners before an unforgettable statement of a chorus.

‘Crush’ echoes Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ and is an effortless display of Lola’s soaring vocal performance. This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway rounds off with Lola’s intimate spoken word outro.

Through her captivating filmed content and no-nonsense output on life, Lola has won over a new legion of fans spanning both sides of the Atlantic
