Stand was the first collaboration between Hensley and Emelin and the first song recorded. “I didn’t know if I could do it because I’ve never done it before,” said Hensley. “(Vladimir) loved it and he wanted me to do more and more until we finally ended up with an album’s worth of songs.”
All the elements of the track were recorded separately in home studios across Europe. Backing vocals were recorded in Italy, Russia, Yorkshire and Teddington, London, while other musicians and Hensley recorded their contributions in Spain.
Stand (Chase The Beast Away) bears all the hallmarks of a life spent, by Hensley, crafting classic rock music. Based on one of Emelin’s poems, Stand is an anthem of hope as we draw on the strength of love and friendship to confront our demons. The chorus soars ‘Stand up, stand strong, Stand together and stand for as long as it takes,’ and together we are capable of great things.
