Keaton Henson is pleased to share a new single, “Career Day”.
The intimate, almost ghostly recording features Keaton solo; a lullabic vocal hanging over intricately plucked guitar. It’s a beautifully moving and understated re-introduction to this very singular talent.
“Career Day” is Keaton’s first new music since the Kindly Now LP, back in 2016.

“Career Day” is written about the many different versions of ourselves that we have to carry on a daily basis, and the overwhelming sense that you are of a million professions, but to one extent or another, failing slightly at them all.
Having spent three years writing a complex and exhausting, but thoroughly satisfying symphony (Six Lethargies) which was both released and performed live last year, Keaton took a step back into the shadows to write. Stripping everything away, he has inadvertently returned to many of the sounds and beautiful simplicity of his first album (2012’s Dear).
“Career Day” is a very fine first example of where those self-recorded and self-produced recordings have led him.
The track is accompanied by a montage of personal family footage filmed when Keaton was a young child.
Reflecting on the video, Keaton explains: “The video is a collection of often abstracted shots from deeply personal home videos. I just liked the idea of hearing an ageing weary man, singing about his failings over distorted shots of his childhood, and how it colours those captured gleeful moments with the sadness of the passage of time.”
