The year brings another surprise, as Aquilo today share the brand new track ‘Just A Day’. Not only is ‘Just A Day’ their first Christmas song, but it also puts a fresh slant on a season which is a more challenging time for many people.

A gentle piano ballad that offers the perfect mood for roasting by an open fire, the song possesses a nostalgia and a poignancy that makes it a heartening addition to the 2021 Christmas playlist. Further flavoured with majestic strings and a sparkling crescendo, its lyrics bring small moments of the season’s celebrations to life – but as Christmas is just a day, it’s full of hope that tough times today will pass for sweeter moments in the future.

Aquilo commented, “‘Just A Day’ is essentially a celebration of normality and the important things in life. At a time of year when loneliness can come easily, it’s a reminder that you’re not alone. There is something calming and beautiful in remembering that Christmas is just a day.”

‘Just A Day’ benefited from the new-found independence that Aquilo have embraced in this latest stage of their career. Ben Fletcher posted on socials that he “accidentally wrote a Christmas song” on November 1st. He and Tom Higham then recorded and mixed it in a week, and just a month later they have now released the finished track.

Aquilo followed the release of ‘A Safe Place To Be’ by filming some live performances at the village hall in Silverdale – their hometown, which is recreated in miniature model form on the album cover. The two songs – ‘You Make Me Mad’ and ‘I Wanna See You Smile’ – provide a flavour of what to expect when Aquilo play their first full scale shows in over three years in February with a European tour that finally reunites them with their fans. Their previous live highlights include a headline show at London’s Scala plus festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude and SXSW.
