Having started the year by being named in The Independent’s list of 15 bands you should listen to in 2020, Junodream today share their first release of the year with the new single ‘easy life’.
‘easy life’ represents a confident step forward in the band’s evolution. The quintet is drawing on a wider palette of sounds, with post-rock and modern prog blending into their expansive mix of shoegaze and psychedelia. The result is intricately detailed and dynamically tense, offering a precarious balance between escalating menace and dreamy atmospherics.
The song’s concept is based around contemporary neuroses: people becoming overwhelmed by the demands of daily life and then slowly becoming enamoured and isolated by their online activity. It was written before lockdown, but its meaning has grown in stature since. With so many people now working from home and even the most social butterflies forced to connect with others remotely, how will things change as society reintegrates?
Junodream commented, “‘easy life’ is fundamentally about laziness and insecurity. Actively alienating yourself from the real world. Social exhaustion and anxiety can drive people online and there’s a safety in doing that, although you can inadvertently alienate yourself from the real world. You put on a different skin online and easy validation will follow if you’re willing to betray reality. But the music has a darker undertone to it. How easy do you want it to be, before it consumes you completely?”
Junodream’s recent Pink Floyd cover, Gorillaz cover and ‘Isolation Mixtape’ gives a further flavour of their influences. The Isolation Mixtape ranges from modern favourites such as Alvvays and Weyes Blood, before charting back through King Krule, LCD Soundsystem, Joy Division and Pink Floyd. The band also recently released their new Podcast series, dream_cast talking about various topics including the charts, Glastonbury and more.
Junodream are confirmed to play three live dates this Autumn, with more live dates for 2021 to be announced soon. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
