Decca Records is delighted to announce ‘Listen’¸ the new album from Jung Jaeil, the award-winning South Korean composer behind the soundtracks for the critically acclaimed films Parasite and Squid Game. With a career spanning over two decades, Jung has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative and accomplished screen composers of his generation.
‘Listen’ is an intimate piano-based album featuring warm cinematic strings, inspired by nature, humanity, and the need to listen to the planet and one another. Recorded at the legendary Rainbow Studio in Norway and performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, the album showcases Jung Jaeil’s exceptional talent for crafting evocative and poignant compositions.
Jung Jaeil says, “I’m just taking my first step with Piano, which is my voice. The step that is taken carefully like a baby led me deep inside. I want you to listen to my voice. I want to listen to yours and all the voices of everything that surrounds us. I hope that you could feel alive when you listen to my voice.”
Jung Jaeil is a composer and multi-instrumentalist with a diverse range of influences and a background in both classical and popular music. In addition to his highly acclaimed work on the soundtracks for films such as Parasite and Squid Game, Jung has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in K-pop, writing and producing songs for artists such as 3Racha (StrayKids sub-unit) and IU. His music is characterized by an eclectic musical palette and a unique blend of classical and popular influences, as evidenced by his incorporation of famous musical quotations from composers such as Bach, Brahms, Schubert, Arvo Part and Henryk Gorecki into his soundtracks.
