The recent tracks of Jon Allen ‘White Gold’, ‘The Shadow’ and ‘Nine Lives’ have captured evocative snapshots of the day-to-day struggles of 18th century Londoners – and those stories weave into an imaginative tapestry of what the streets of our capital must have felt like. The next chapter of this narrative is the release of his new single ‘Down With The Tide’ out now. Listen HERE. The new album ‘Seven Dials’ is released May 2nd.

‘Down With The Tide’ simmers with the dark-hearted intensity of a cockney ‘Peaky Blinders’. His husky, wounded roar of a vocal – think Joe Cocker meets Kelly Jones – surveys the murky depths of the Thames and vows that the challenges of the era aren’t going to drag him down into the water. It brings to mind a stark realisation: at any moment in the city, from then until now, countless people are grinding just to make it through to the end of the week. Musically it builds up from a bluesy ballad, to old school R&B before accelerating into a raucous, mod-meets-prog rock finale.

The idea behind the ‘Seven Dials’ emerged when Jon visited the Bow Street Police Museum. Something deep in our psyche gives stories of criminality an engaging fascination, especially when seen through the prism of a long-past era. Naturally his thoughts then made parallels with the present day, while the timelessness of his voice and his songwriting proved to naturally complement such themes.

‘Seven Dials’ will be released on CD and vinyl, and is available to pre-order HERE.

The ‘White Gold’ single prompted a fresh focus on Jon’s talent from House of Solo. It builds upon his numerous other accomplishments, which have varied from collaborating with Paul McCartney and Mark Knopfler to supporting Iceland’s arena-filling blues rockers KALEO and having his song ‘Going Home’ featured in a major Land Rover campaign. He has also played Glastonbury, performed on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’, and found a devoted cult-level audience who have helped him exceed 40 million streams so far.

Jon Allen will celebrate the release of ‘Seven Dials’ by hitting the road with his band The Luna Kings. Tickets for the following shows are available HERE.
