James Bourne is one of the most successful songwriters of his generation. Starting with his arena-conquering success with Busted, James has scored five #1 smash hits, several Top 10 singles and achieved multi-Platinum album success with Busted, McFly and the Jonas Brothers. His flair for a killer hook and an immediately addictive melody has also resulted in him writing songs for artists as diverse as 5 Seconds of Summer, The Vamps, Backstreet Boys, Mel C and Pixie Lott.
Now James showcases another side to his wide-ranging skills as a singer-songwriter by sharing his debut solo single ‘Everyone Is My Friend’. Listen HERE.
Full of timeless singer-songwriter vibes along with elements of country and soul, the laidback ‘Everyone Is My Friend’ is a sweet statement of making music for the love of it rather than any associated drama, rivalry or competition. If you’ve appreciated his songwriting for any of his other projects, you’ll find ‘Everyone Is My Friend’ is worthy of your time.
James commented, “In a time of great uncertainty and division, out of all the songs on my album I feel this is the one to naturally come first. It’s exactly the kind of song that people need to hear right now.”
‘Everyone Is My Friend’ was produced by Bourne’s old friend John Fields (who credits stretch from Jimmy Eat World to Selena Gomez) and co-written by the veteran hitmaker Stephen Bishop, whose countless hits include Phil Collins’ Oscar-nominated ‘Separate Lives’.
The single represents the first taste of James’s upcoming debut solo album. It’s an expression of his life’s journey through music, and a celebration of the classic songcraft that has informed everything he has put his name to. It echoes the timeless songwriting of the Laurel Canyon scene through to modern alternative rock. At times you can hear a country twang flavoured by his time spent in Nashville, at others lyrical references to NYC and LA.
More details on James’s debut solo album will emerge soon.
