JAMES have announced the release of a brand-new track, taken from their forthcoming album ALL THE COLOURS OF YOU, to be released on 4 June. BEAUTIFUL BEACHES is available now across all DSPs.
Also announced is a headline show at SCARBOROUGH OPEN AIR THEATRE on Thursday 9 September, their third time headlining the Yorkshire coast venue after shows there in 2015 and 2018. Tickets go on sale at 9AM on FRIDAY 23 APRIL here: https://scarboroughopenairtheatre.com/
This will be the third time James – who gave the world such timeless anthems as Sit Down, Born of Frustration, She’s A Star and Come Home – have headlined Scarborough OAT after amazing shows at the Yorkshire coast venue in 2015 and 2018.
Bassist Jim Glennie said: “We always have a great night there – even back in the days when you had to cross the old moat to get to the audience! We are looking forward to another very special night on the Yorkshire coast.”
James have sold more than 25 million records worldwide over the past 30 years – gaining both critical and commercial acclaim. Their enduring creativity and musical legacy has made them one of the most influential British bands of the last four decades.
They continue to be a huge live draw, headlining festivals and recently selling 60,000 tickets for their 2021 UK arena tour – their fastest selling tour ever.
A resident of Topanga Canyon for many years, Tim Booth wrote the lyrics for Beautiful Beaches in response to climate change migration and the subsequent increasingly regular Californian fires bringing devastation to his community.
Beautiful Beaches was inspired by a friend who lost his ‘fireproof’ home and had to flea for his life to the beaches, and a recurring vision that Tim had last year of earthquakes and fires in California, a vision that resulted in his family selling up and leaving the Canyon. “That life we left behind / We’re racing down to those beautiful beaches.”
Tim says: “We love how this song is so uplifting, focusing on new beginnings. I like the idea that many might not know the backstory and hear it as a post-Covid holiday song, praying that the lyrics don’t turn out to be prophetic.”
Beautiful Beaches is the follow up the title track and first single, All the Colours of You, released last month, another personal account, tackling both the Trump-based Covid year and the civil rights struggle head on.
